ApachePDA in action

ApachePDA installs on your device just like any other application. The software comes ready-to-install as a .prc file which is loaded at HotSync.

ApachePDA is able to serve pages over the internet via a standard Palm modem or through the IR port with another suitable IR device. Currently, ApachePDA has been tested with only Ericsson phones. ApachePDA is not expected to be able to work with Nokia 61x0 phones.

In alpha mode, or on devices where memory is an issue, ApachePDA runs only as a single task. However, beta versions will be interrupt driven provided the device has enough memory.

Limited server configuration can take place on the Palm device itself. All options can be configured off the device and then committed through a HotSync operation.

Access to data on the Palm is available through ApachePDA's integration with other Palm applications. Records in the address book or date book may be viewed online, provided that they are not marked as private.

Web pages are stored in the Memo Pad, making effective use of existing Palm applications, and allowing easy editing from Palm Desktop. Give the server its own unique category in Memo Pad and the pages are served from there.

Log files, too, are stored in the MemoPad, but are automatically deleted after a configurable length of time. Log files can be transferred to the PC during a HotSync operation if they are to be stored.

ApachePDA runs on any Palm device running PalmOS 3.0 (or greater) with 2 megabytes of memory or more, and a Palm modem. (Not Personal or Professional editions.) On high-specification devices, extra functionality will be available.

ApachePDA is able to serve pages over the internet via a standard Palm modem or through the IR port with another suitable IR device, such as a laptop or IrDA capable mobile phone such as Ericsson's new T28.
